INTRO: VARUDU is the latest offering from director Gunasekhar (Okkadu fame) with Allu Arjun as it’s hero. Varudu is having a grand world-wide release today (March 31st) and one of the reasons for the hype is the heroine. The heroine’s name/pictures/details are not revealed yet. Music by Manisharma is an average fare (depends a lot on the picturization)…. detailed review follows:
Allu Arjun in & as VARUDU
STORY LINE: Sandeep [Allu Arjun] decides to go for an arranged marriage and his parents [Suhasini & Asish V] selects Deepti [Bhanu Sri Mehra] as the bride. Both – bride and the groom decide to look at each other only on the day of marriage and as per our hero’s wish, it will be a grand 5-day marriage with the presence of all his relatives. Diwakar [Aarya] comes from no where and kidnaps the heroine just before the muhurat. How our VARUDU saves the bride and bring her back forms rest of the routine plot…!
TECHNICAL: Gunasekhar as always was fascinated about the settings and the grand visuals. He hasn’t learned from any of his failures like: Arjun or Sainikudu. Though the story was convincing enough, our director’s screen-play hardly had any gripping moments. And, whenever we feel that the film is reaching a high point – he lets us down immediately with another dull episode. The climax episode and the usage of graphics for the pillars was of a cheap taste. He should seriously start concentrating on the content rather than the visual feast. But, the way he has written the character of ‘Diwakar’ is laudable..!
Music is a big minus for this Varudu film. Though Manisharma tried to compensate with his Re-Recording, there was no scope for him. Except the “Bahusaa Oh Chanchalaaa…!” song, none of the numbers were impressive. Cinematography by Rajasekhar is neat and consistent. Editing is also fine with the given script. Production values were rich with lots of wastage visible. CGI work was not that effective and the lack of necessity deters the work even more.
PERFORMANCES: ALLU ARJUN was impressive as always with his high energy. But..but… he needs to improve his dialogue delivery a lot… that too… when challenging a voice like RaviShankar (dubbed for Diwakar character). He is pathetic when compared to the villain’s voice. His dance movements and fights were good enough. Debutant heroine: Bhanu Mehra is decent enough but not the heroine item. She doesn’t have a glamor or performance quotient to be a successful heroine. Suhasini, Aasish Vidyardhi, Naresh, etc were effective enough.
But, it was Tamil hero: AARYA who steals the show with his impeccable performance. Many a times, he dominated the screen with his power packed style and dialogues. The way he utters the “Kooshmaanda..!” is really powerful. Singeetham has also made his presence felt.
HIGHLIGHTS: Allu Arjun & Aarya’s screen presence, Aarya’s character & dialogues, Marriage episode (pre-interval) were effective.
PITFALLS: Loose screen-play, not-so-impressive heroine (after all the expectations), over usage of graphic work has spoiled the other-wise cool settings, bad songs with not even a single hummable number, boring 1st half definitely spoil the show…!
FINAL ANALYSIS: Director has completely failed in narration and in the end: gives us a below par movie with good intentions but no impressions…! He should have reduced the production cost along with the boring elements if he had worked more on the script.
Anyways, refreshing to see Aarya in a negative role. I would recommend this movie for ‘Diwakar’ character and also an intensive (though very short) lip-lock scene. Even the episode of Varudu & Vadhuvu looking at each other for the 1st time was electric.
Note: Allu Arjun’s movies (like: Desamudhuru, Parugu, etc) has the tendency of making profits even after getting some negative reviews. Varudu might also repeat the same as the film has it’s own positive elements to attract the family audience in the long run (summer holidays might add to that)

ఇప్పుడే “మరో చరిత్ర” సినిమా చూసి వచ్చా… ఆహా ఏమి సినిమా గురూ! ఒక సినిమా ఎంత చెత్తగా ఉండాలో అంత చెత్తగా ఉంది. దిల్ రాజుకి పట్టిన శని ఇప్పటిలో వదిలే అవకాశం లేదేమో? హీరోయిన్ అనిత గురించే చెప్పకపోవడమే బెటర్, అసలే కళ లేని మొహం – దానికి తగ్గట్లు దారుణ మైన నటన. ఇంకా మన వరుణ్ గురించి చెప్పేది ఏముంది? ఇంకా నటన నేర్చుకునే దశ లోనే ఉన్నాడు మన తమ్ముడు… పాటల్లో పస లేదు.. కధనం లో కసి లేదు.. పనీ పాటా లేకపోతే ఈ “మరో చరిత్ర” సినిమా కి వెళ్ళండి!

పవన్ కళ్యాణ్ “పులి” తర్వాత నిర్మాత గణేష్ కి చేయబోయే సినిమా చివరకి జయంత్ చేతికి చిక్కింది. హరీష్ శంకర్ నుండి విజయ్ భాస్కర్ చేతికి వెళ్లి – ఇప్పుడు అది ఎక్కడో ఉన్న జయంత్ దగ్గరికి చేరింది. జయంత్ అంటే తెలుసుగా : – ప్రేమించుకుందాం రా, శంకర్ దాదా లాంటి హిట్లు ఇచ్చిన పాత దర్శకుడు… పవన్ అన్నయ్య ఏ సినిమా ఎవరికి ఎందుకు ఇస్తాడో దేవుడికే తెలియాలి… ఇంకా పెద్ద కామెడి ఏంటంటే – ఈ సినిమా హిందీ హిట్టు “లవ్ ఆజ్ కల్” కి రీమేక్ అంట… హ హ హహ !

క్రికెట్ అనేది గనుక ఒక మతం అయితే – కచ్చితంగా సచిన్ టెండూల్కర్ దానికి దేవుడే! ఈ వయస్సులో కూడా కుర్రకారు కన్నా వేగవంతమైన, శక్తిమంతమైన ఆటని ప్రదర్శిస్తున్న ఆ దేవుడిని ఏమని పొగడాలి??? ఊరు ఏదైనా, స్టేడియం ఏదైనా, ప్రత్యర్ది ఎవరైనా జనం మాత్రం ఈ పిల్లోడు కనబడితే ఒకటే కేరింతలు… ఆడటం మొదలు పెట్టి ఇరవై ఏళ్ళు అయినా ఒకే రకమైన క్రేజ్ ని నిలబెట్టుకోవడం ప్రపంచంలో ఇంకా ఎవరికీ, ఎప్పటికీ సాధ్యం కాదు!

In fact, this concept was borrowed/copied from one of the Hollywood flicks (Pay It Forward)…!

CHEATING
After bearing lots of humiliation and disgust, I’ve decided to move a Fraud Attempt by AIRTEL to the Consumer Court. I’ve listened to many similar stories of WORST CUSTOMER SUPPORT in the past. But, I’ve been a victim of the same from last few months and I’m hardly left with anymore patience regarding this CHEATING CUSTOMER issue!
I’ve paid 1700 rupees for retaining a post-paid number [Deposit: 500, Previous user's balance: 300 & Yearly Rental: 899] and used it for hardly 2 days in December 2009. When I went to pay my 1st month bill on Jan 28th 2010 – I was left with shock to see that the number is PERMANENTLY DISCONNECTED for address verification failure [same address is present on all my other Airtel Landline - Airtel DTH - Airtel Pre-paid services and all these services are associated with the same Pre-paid mobile number]. I’ve kept my cool and agreed to submit the documents again. Now, the REAL SHOCK: They’re asking me to pay the amount (Deposit + Rental + Balance) AGAIN for the re-allocation and activation of my 5 year old number…… GOD… !
- Do I need to be present at home all the time for their address verification??
- Do I need to pay 3500 rupees for making 5 or 10 calls??
Will see how far can I go, how much more can I pay & how long can I fight with AIRTEL people for RETAINING a 5-year old Post-paid number…! Will update soon!
UPDATE:1 (20th March 2010) – Mr. Mahender Kumar Sharma (from Corp Office in Delhi) has called me and promised me that he will surely try to resolve this issue by 23rd March. Keeping my fingers crossed! In between, thanks to N.N.Iyer (from India Consumer Forum ) for facilitating the discussion!
After the successful releases of King & Arundati, MAGADHEERA is all set to entertain us on the perfect picture quality format: BLU-RAY. Along with it’s 2-disc collector’s edition DVD, Magadheera was released today in the new Blu-Ray format also.

DVD is priced @ 149 rs, 2-disc DVD @ 199 rs, VCD @ 75 rs & BLU-RAY @ whopping 1100 rs! Magadheera Blu-Ray disc is not yet released into the market. The news from Planet M music store is that: MAGADHEERA BLU-RAY DISC will be available only after April 9th 2010 in the retail shops!
